A two-storey building has collapsed in Ebute Metta area of Lagos on Friday trapping residents inside and leaving some injured.

As at the time of filing this report, the building situated opposite the health centre along Cemetery street in Ebute Metta has caved in.

Operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) are currently trying to rescue the residents.

The collapsed building houses shops and other residential apartments.

There are growing concerns over rising cases of collapsed buildings in Lagos.

On July 11, a child was confirmed dead when a three-storey building collapsed at Freeman Street, Lagos Island.

    • Two children dead, 10 injured in Lagos building collapse

Six people were rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building while the corpse of the child was taken to the mortuary.

Two children had earlier died when a building collapsed in Ogudu area of the state.

Collapsed buildings are sometimes linked to poor quality of construction materials and non-involvement of professionals in the building process.

In June, the Lagos state government sealed off 42 buildings in the Lekki area over non-adherence to proper planning.
