Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has mourned the death of popular Muslim cleric Shaykh Qamar-ud-Deen Jumah Ajala, also known as Amir Ajala.
Sanwo-Olu stated that Amir Ajala is a well-known faith leader, community organiser, and a spiritual and moral guide to thousands of his followers in Lagos and across the country.
Amir Ajala reportedly died peacefully on Thursday evening.
Sanwo-Olu expressed his condolence in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, on Friday, January 24.
The statement partly reads: “The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the death of popular Muslim cleric, Shaykh Qamar-ud-Deen Jumah Ajala, otherwise known as Amir Ajala.
“Amir Ajala, a known leader of faith, community mobiliser, and spiritual and moral compass for several thousand of his followers in Lagos and other parts of the country, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening.
“Sanwo-Olu described the death of the Muslim cleric as a big loss to Lagos State, happening at a time when the government is working with people of means to help in the reorientation of the youths.
“The Governor said the late Amir Ajala left an indelible mark on the Muslim community and his followers across the world, and he would be sorely missed.”
