Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, rode the Lagos Blue Line train for the first time on Monday as service got underway.

Around 9:00 a.m., the governor boarded the train to travel to Mile 2. Sanwo-Olu went over the requirements for boarding the train with his other passengers before he got on it.

Along with other government officials, Sanwo-Olu was attended by his wife, Ibijoke, his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, secretary to the state government Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, former deputy governor Femi Pedro, former speaker of the house of assembly Adeyemi Ikuforiji, and senator Musiliu Obanikoro.

For the first month, the train will only make 12 trips using the locomotive system, according to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).

Abimbola Akinajo, managing director of LAMATA, pointed out that the organization will launch its electric-powered train service with 76 trips. Between 150,000 and 175,000 passengers per day are anticipated to ride from 5:30 in the morning until 11 at night.

While his administration has taken steps to safeguard the asset, the governor had urged Lagosians to assume ownership of the rail tracks.

With over 30 cameras watching the tracks alone, there are over 300 CCTV cameras covering the entire rail, and command and control centres are available in every station along the railway. This is your project, Lagos,” he continued.

“Take responsibility for it and handle it with respect, just like you would anything that is yours. On-train disputes or disturbances won’t be permitted. It should go without saying that vandalism won’t be accepted either.
