The family of the slain National Youth Corps member, Salome Adaidu, is demanding a public execution of Temileyin Ajayi, the culprit who murdered her in cold blood.
Speaking in an interview with The Punch on Friday, Mr. Sam Adaidu, Salome’s uncle, mentioned that the bereaved family is greatly traumatized by the incident.
He mentioned that her killer deserves to face public execution so as to deter others from following in his footsteps.
“He deserves to face the death penalty. He should go to the grave. What he did is unforgivable,” he stated.
Mr. Adaidu debunked claims that Ajayi and the victim were lovers, saying, “That guy is lying. He and his type have their ways of manipulating girls, deceiving them, and eventually destroying their lives. There’s nothing like a girlfriend relationship here. In fact, he didn’t even know her full name when he was arrested and beaten. This shows it was a case of kidnap and murder.”
He mentioned that he trusts the law enforcement agencies to deal decisively with the culprit.
“They are taking him to court this (Friday) morning. Initially, I wanted to fight for a transfer of the case to Abuja. But in Nasarawa State, there is a provision in their law that states that for a murder case, the penalty is a death sentence. This one is a clear-cut murder case.
“So, while I was pushing for the movement of the case to Abuja, I realised that since Nasarawa State law is strict, and the governor (of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule) is interested in the case, there’s no need. This morning, the Minister for Women Affairs (Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim) was with the governor concerning the case. I believe justice will be served by the grace of God,” he added.
Describing the victim as “a gentle, kind-hearted girl,” Mr. Adaidu mentioned that he would have resorted to violence if not for “maturity and understanding.” He also added that the family of the suspect does not deserve peace, saying, “If we weren’t bound by the law, the perpetrator’s family would not have had peace.”
It will be recalled that Adaidu was gruesomely murdered and beheaded by her lover Ajayi, a self-acclaimed gospel singer.
Ajayi was apprehended by church worshippers while attempting to dispose of the victim’s head in a shallow river in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.
The suspect has been arraigned in court and has been remanded in prison, pending further hearing of the case in court.
