Sajid Javid appointed new Home Secretary replacing Amber Rudd

Sajid Javid has been appointed as the new Home Secretary after the resignation of Amber Rudd.

Javid is a former managing director at Deutsche Bank. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bromsgrove in Worcestershire since 2010.

Javid previously served as Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government from 2016 to 2018, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and President of the Board of Trade from 2015 to 2016.

He also served as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport from 2014 to 2015, Minister for Equalities in 2014, Financial Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister from 2013 to 2014 and Economic Secretary from 2012 to 2013.

Ms Rudd became the fifth departure from the Cabinet since last year’s snap general election, after admitting she had “inadvertently” misled MPs over the existence of targets for removing illegal immigrants.

The Hastings and Rye MP stepped down the evening before she was due to make a statement in the House of Commons on the targets and illegal migration, as she faced increasing pressure over the handling of the Windrush “scandal”.
