The Fidau prayer for the late Islamic singer, Alhaja Rukayat Gawat-Oyefeso, has reportedly been scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

The prayer, an Islamic rite for the departed, will be held after she died on September 23, 2024, following a brief illness.

Rukayat, recognised for her sonorous voice and devotional music that connected with many in the Muslim community, was laid to rest at her husband’s village of Ijebu-Aiyepe, Ogun State, according to Islamic traditions.

Her family (Gawat) and her husband’s family (Oyefeso) have asked for privacy while they prepare for the Fidau and continue to grieve her.

Her brother, Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made the announcement on behalf of the Gawat and Oyefeso families.

On Thursday night, he shared the post via his official X and TikTok accounts.

The singer passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, following a brief illness. She was 40 years old.

The family conveyed their heartfelt sadness while surrendering to the Will of Almighty Allah (SWT).
