Protests have broken out in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, following the Supreme Court’s ruling that upheld Governor Abdullahi Sule’s election in the state’s March 18, 2023, elections.
Some aggrieved loyalists of the PDP in Nasarawa state staged the protest, burning tires, following the Supreme Court’s ruling.
The Lafia-Jos route has been entirely shut down as protesters set fires to deter travelers and other road users.
According to reports, motorists had to take alternative routes out of Lafia while tires were burned in front of the state secretariat of the party, thus barricading the road.
Chronicle NG reports that the Supreme Court, in a unanimous ruling by a five-member bench, affirmed Sule of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the governorship election held in the state on March 18, 2023.
In its main decision, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, David Ombugadu, as lacking in substance.
