Prophet Segun Philip, 42, and Owolabi Adeeko, 23, were sentenced to death by hanging by an Osun State High Court sitting in Ikire for the ritual killing of Favour Daley-Oladele, a final year student of Lagos State University (LASU).
While announcing her decision in the case in Ikire on Monday, Justice Christiana Obadina sentenced Bola Adeeko, the mother of Owolabi, to two years in prison for eating human flesh.
Owolabi and Favour met at LASU and dated till the man invited her to Ikoyi, Osun State, in December 2019.
Both men buried Favour’s body in a shallow grave within the church grounds after extracting some organs from her.
The organs of the deceased LASU final year student were purportedly used to manufacture concoctions for Owolabi’s mother in order to boost her business fortunes, which were in a downward spiral at the time.
After being arrested, the three defendants were arraigned before a magistrate court in Apomu in January 2020, but were re-arraigned before the High Court in Ikire in November 2021, on charges of conspiracy and murder in violation of Sections 324 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Laws of Osun State, 2002.
