There is the fear of death currently ravaging the northern state of Kano as more deaths were reported in the state on Saturday.
News spread that various prominent people died, some from the coronavirus, others from unspecified causes.
It should be noted that the state is currently on lockdown, imposed by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Prominent persons like Ibrahim Ayagi; Aliyu Umar Dikko, Abdullahi Lawal; ex-MD of Continental Merchant Bank, Ibrahim Ayagi; Musa Ahmad Tijjani, Editor of Triumph newspapers; Adamu Dal, ex-Chairman State Civil Service Commission have all lost their lives in Kano State.
Others are Nasiru Maikano Bichi; Musa Umar Gwarzo; Ustaz Dahiru Rabiu, ex-Grand Khadi; Salisu Lado; Nene Umma; Garba Sarki Fagge; Salisu Lado; Shamsiyya Mustapha; Nene Umma; Rabiu Dambatta; Kabiru Ibrahim Bayero and mother of businessman, Ado Gwanja.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has paid tribute to Professor Ibrahim Alkali Ayagi, a renowned scholar and professor of economics, describing him as an accomplished economist, banker and administrator who made outstanding contributions to the development of education in northern Nigeria, promotion of entrepreneurship and small businesses.
As former Chairman of the National Economic Intelligence Committee (NEIC), President Buhari believes that the late Ayagi will be long remembered and honoured for his diligent and professional roles in tackling Nigeria’s crippling foreign debt.
President Buhari extends heartfelt condolences to Prof Ayagi’s family, the government and people of Kano and his many friends, students and admirers.
He prays that God will grant Prof Ayagi’s soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourn.
In the wake of the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the President also appeals to the multitude of mourners and sympathizers, particularly in home state of the deceased, to maintain social distancing, stay-at-home and observe all precautionary measures to curtail the transmission of the virus.
