No fewer than 1,284 suspects have been arrested by the Nigerian Police Force in various operations across the country over the past six weeks.
The arrests included 307 armed robbery suspects, 296 kidnapping suspects, 176 rape and defilement suspects, 301 homicide suspects, and 204 suspected cults.
This was revealed by Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi on Friday, during a parade of suspects arrested for various offences.
Adejobi stated that the police rescued 97 kidnapped victims and recovered 284 firearms and 6,702 rounds of ammunition.
He stated, “In the last six weeks, the Nigerian police force has arrested 307 armed robbery suspects, 296 kidnapping suspects, 301 homicide suspects, 176 rape and defilement suspects, and 204 suspected cultists.
“We’ve recovered 284 firearms, 6,702 rounds of ammunition, and 107 vehicles, and we were able to rescue 97 victims of kidnapping.”
Adejobi also mentioned that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had set up a money laundering squad to combat financial crimes.
According to him, the unit will build on current collaboration between the Force and other anti-graft organisations to combat terrorism financing and international crimes.
