The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of Kehinde Yemitan, a murder and ritualist suspect, from his hiding place in the Ilogbo Ota village.
The suspect’s twin brother and Kazeem were previously detained on December 22 for the alleged murder and dismemberment of Darasimi, a commercial sex worker who was lured to their Abeokuta home and eventually slain.
After being identified as one of the perpetrators of the sad incident, the police surveillance team worked with the So Safe Corps to track down Kehinde until information revealed his hiding place on Monday.
CSP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Odutola said that “On December 30, 2024, at about 1700 hrs, the Divisional Police Officer of Sango Ota received a tip from a volunteer informant indicating that Kehinde Yemitan, the twin brother of Taiwo Yemitian, was hiding in the Ilogbo community.
“The police launched a manhunt for Kehinde in connection with the murder and the mutilation of the head of one Darasimi ‘f’ surname unknown on the 22nd of December, 2024, when his twin brother Taiwo YEMITAN and Kazeem ‘m’ were arrested at about 0140 hrs by the Divisional Police Officer of Lafenwa after the duo lured their victim Darasimi, a night sex worker in Abeokuta, to their house for ritual purposes.
“Following this information, a surveillance team, in collaboration with the So Safe Corps, promptly mobilised to the community and apprehended the suspect.
“He admitted to conspiring with others to carry out the crime in Abeokuta. Several community members also confirmed his involvement in criminal activities.”
Meanwhile, Odutola has warned young women to avoid casual friendships or relationships for financial gain, sometimes known as “hookups,” due to the inherent dangers of such unholy relationships.
The police spokeswoman urged parents to help the police in increasing awareness about the dangers of engaging in vices such as prostitution, which can easily end a person’s life.
She said, “A further appeal goes to the teeming young females to see this unfortunate incident as a big lesson and be cautious not to fall victim to another ritual killing.”
