The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of four individuals from the Akpoha Autonomous Community in the Afikpo Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, the victims were kidnapped on July 24 while working on their farms by unidentified assailants.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, said the Divisional Police Officer of the Afikpo Division verified the incident and visited the crime scene for further assessment.
Ukandu stated, “When I called the DPO to confirm the information, he told me that they had visited the scene of the incident to ascertain what had happened and to find out more about the situation.”
He added that the police have launched an investigation and are working with local stakeholders to ensure the safe return of the abductees.
“The division has commenced investigation and search for the rescue of the victims by collaborating with the community leaders, traditional leaders to unravel the reason behind the abduction,” Ukandu said.
He further noted that, “The command will reveal more details when the investigation is concluded on the matter.”
The police have yet to identify the perpetrators or establish the motive behind the abduction.
