The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has condemned the explosion at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State, which killed two police personnel.
Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat were killed in an attack on January 9, 2025, at approximately 12:10 a.m.
According to the command’s public relations officer, ASP Nahum Daso, suspected Boko Haram militants carried out the attack.
The IG condemned the incident, stating that no individual or group implicated in the assassination of officers will go unpunished.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IG expressed condolences to the families of the fallen officers and promised them that their benefits and entitlements would be paid promptly.
The statement read, “In a resolute response to the recent explosion attack at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State, on 9th January, 2025, at about 12.10 am, which led to the death of two police officers, Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the attack and ordered an immediate and thorough clampdown on the perpetrators, as any cop-killers will go unpunished.
“The IGP expresses deep condolences to the families of the deceased officers, affirming that their sacrifice in the line of duty will not be forgotten, as their benefits and entitlements will be immediately paid to their families.”
Adejobi further stated that the IG has asked the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone 15, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to deploy all available resources and manpower to apprehend the criminals.
The IG reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to defending lives and property, vowing to punish anyone who disrupts the country’s security. Investigations into the incident are underway.
