The Federal Capital Territory Police Command verified an armed robbery at Efab Global Estate in Idu, Abuja, but refuted accusations that five security personnel were macheted.
The Command also denied that their officers responded late to the residents’ distress calls.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, clarified that, contrary to widely circulated claims that over 40 hoodlums attacked the estate and severely injured multiple security guards, the actual incident involved a smaller group of armed robbers who infiltrated the estate through the rear perimeter fence.
Adeh stated that the security guards were tied, with one sustaining an injury. He added that the injured guard was sent to the Federal Medical Centre and is currently getting treatment in stable condition.
She did, however, admit that the armed men robbed residents of laptops, mobile phones, and other valuables.
Adeh said, “The FCT Police Command wishes to address and clarify a recent incident that has generated concern within the public domain, particularly regarding misleading reports suggesting that over 40 hoodlums invaded Efab Global Estate, Idu, injuring five security guards as the police delayed response.
“Contrary to these exaggerated claims, the Command confirms that a case of armed robbery was reported at about 04:05 AM on May 21, 2025, when the Divisional Police Officer of Life Camp Division received a distress call concerning a robbery incident which had taken place in Efab Global Estate Idu.”
Following the attack, Adeh stated that security measures around the estate had been strengthened in partnership with local vigilantes and community stakeholders.
She also stated that an investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the offenders.
Speaking, FCT Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale advised estate managers and residents to thoroughly examine private security and domestic workers.
He also stressed the importance of working closely with Divisional Police Officers to improve local security.
