The Kano State Police Command reported the arrest of seven individuals for protesting the Court of Appeal’s decision to uphold Governor Abba-Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party’s dismissal.
Mr. Hussaini Gumel, the State Police Commissioner, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday night, saying the seven protestors were apprehended along Kano Line on their way to State House Road.
“We have succeeded in stopping the protesters, and we have arrested seven of them.
“We have deployed armed policemen in the area; we have since commenced an intensive investigation, and we will update you in due course,” Gumel said.
He urged citizens to continue with their lawful activities, noting that the police and other security agencies had taken necessary security steps to prevent a recurrence.
“I am appealing to residents not to hesitate to report to the nearest security outfit any person or group of people engaging in any form of protest in and outside the metropolis for prompt action”, Gumel said.
Chronicle NG reports that some youths suspected to be supporters of the NNPP took to the streets in Kano on Wednesday, protesting the appeal court judgment that sacked the governor.
