The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Kelvin Okoro, who is accused of hacking a Revered Sister to death in the Aluu community of Rivers State’s Ikwerre Local Government.
It was discovered that the suspect owed the deceased (Maureen Wecheonwu) an undisclosed sum of money and had been nagging her to repay it.
According to a source who asked to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the situation, Kelvin duped his benefactor and led her to a remote location where he allegedly committed the heinous act on Thursday early before fleeing the scene.
According to the source, some locals discovered the Reverend Sister’s remains in a pool of her blood and informed a local security company in the region.
He stated, “What we heard was that he didn’t know how to repay the money. So he called the woman out in the guise of discussing the debt.
“Not knowing his evil intentions because the Reverend Sister had been complaining to people in the community that he had refused to pay his debt, so he took her to a lonely path and hit her severely with an object.”
He stated that after the finding of her remains, people began to ask why they hadn’t seen the man, triggering an enhanced investigation by the vigilante known as OSPAC.
According to the source, Kingsley Wali, the Aluu community’s Vigilante Commander, led a search squad to the suspect’s hiding place, captured him, and turned him over to police.
He went on to say that the victim allegedly escaped with the deceased’s personal items following the event.
When reached, Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the state police command, verified the event and said an inquiry is underway.
She stated, “Yes, I can confirm. The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.”
