The Labour Party has engaged 20 Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) to challenge the outcome of the February 25 presidential election on behalf of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

According to sources within Labour Party, the lawyers have being armed with evidences that would be presented in court.

Amongst other things, Peter Obi and the Labour Party is seeking to prove that the election was not free, fair and transparent. The opposition party will also try and prove the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was not a neutral umpire.

INEC’s failure to use Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV) which it claimed will be used before the election has also raised concerns in many quarters.

The 2023 presidential election was also marred by multiple incidents of political violence overshadowed the electoral process and impeded a substantial number of voters from participating.

INEC has admitted that its conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections on February 25 was below par and has assured Nigerians that BVAS will be deployed during the March 11 governorship and state assembly elections.

The Labour Party had on March 1 called on INEC to cancel the election but the electoral body went on to announce Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress as the president-elect.
