Gunmen have killed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) councillorship candidate in Pari Ward, in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Raymond Timothy, and his brother, James Timothy.
This was announced by a PDP chieftain in the local government area, Barnabas Chawai, on Sunday.
According to him, the two were slain on Sunday evening while riding a motorcycle home from a political campaign in Kizachi Village, Pari Ward, Kauru LGA.
He stated that the death was politically motivated, urging security services to take action and bring the criminals to justice.
“Drastic measures need to be put in place to forestall further occurrence as we approach the October 19 local government poll.
“The victim had three children, and the wife is pregnant and expecting a fourth child,” Chawai said.
Also, John Wanneh, the secretary to the village head of Kizachi, stated that they met with the victim at 6 p.m. and parted ways so that he could travel home to Bakin-Kogi.
“Honestly, we cannot be able to say who are those that committed this crime or say the killing was connected to politics or not,” Wanneh added.
He called on the government to help construct a bridge and road for easy accessibility in an emergency.
“Security operatives cannot enter the village now because of the bad nature of the road, and there’s a river that they cannot cross; that has been our situation for long,” Wanneh lamented.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, had yet to comment on the incident at the time of filing this report.
