In the midst of the continuous conflict, Palestine has petitioned the UN, requesting that Israel abandon its territories.
Abdallah Shawesh, the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
On October 7, the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack against Israel. Over 1,500 people have been verified deceased in the war, and the death toll is certain to rise.
Israel imposed a siege on Gaza, cutting off power, water, food, and gasoline.
Abdallah Shawesh, the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, called on the UN on Tuesday to apply international law to Israel and compel it to end its occupation of areas in Palestine.
He added that “the applicability of the law will bring a halt to the conflict; otherwise, the Palestinians will continue to exercise what he describes as their legitimate right to liberate and defend themselves.”
He also urged the international community to cease treating Israel as if it were above the law and to treat all sides fairly.
In response to whether the Palestinian government supports the Hamas group, Shawesh stated that the group is not a terrorist outfit and is fighting for the people’s right to liberate their land from Israeli oppression.
