Late President Muhammadu Buhari proved that it is possible to serve Nigeria with honesty and integrity, according to the Immediate Past Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.
Speaking during a brief session to honour the late former president at the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, Osinbajo said Buhari “proved that you can serve with honesty, transparency, and integrity.”
He described Buhari as a “convicted and converted democrat” who demonstrated an unwavering belief in the Constitution and the rule of law. “He ran for office three times and lost, pursued his rights in the courts, losing all three times. It was only at the fourth attempt that he won,” he recalled.
This was the first NEC meeting since Buhari’s passing, and Osinbajo, a founding father of the APC and Buhari’s deputy for eight years, was specially invited by President Bola Tinubu to pay tribute.
Osinbajo previously joined President Tinubu and other dignitaries to receive Buhari’s remains when it arrived in Nigeria last week. He continues to highlight the achievements and legacy of the Buhari administration.
The Buhari-Osinbajo administration was widely recognised for its Social Investment Programmes, which earned both national and international acclaim. It also made significant strides in infrastructure, security, and economic reforms.
Also present at the NEC meeting were President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and several APC leaders. The NEC officially announced the election of Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as the new national chairman of the party.
President Tinubu, who succeeded Buhari, is expected to seek a second term when his first term ends in 2027.
