The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded 90.08% of the results from the Ondo State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal.
As of 6:22 p.m. on Saturday, results from 3,543 of the 3,933 polling units used in the election were available online. The All Progressives Congress’s Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a key contender in this election.
Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party and Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party.
According to accounts, the election had a large turnout of voters, and security was particularly tight throughout the state.
In an unusual event, officers from the Department of State Services apprehended a suspected vote-buyer in Akure, Ondo State’s capital.
The guy was apprehended at Ward 4, Polling Unit 007, outside St. Stephen’s Primary School, with two bags of cash, reportedly intended to sway voters.
Agboola Ajayi won in his own polling unit, Apoi Ward II, Unit 004, in Ese Odo Local Government Area, with 194 votes against Aiyedatiwa’s 3.
However, Ajayi expressed worries about the election’s conduct, citing serious abnormalities in the process. Meanwhile, Aiyedatiwa was pleased with the outcome of the Ondo State governorship election.
After voting at Polling Unit 5, Ugbo Ward 4, Ilaje Local Government Area, Aiyedatiwa described the experience as “encouraging.”
His comment was: “It’s reassuring to see the exercise going smoothly here, and I hope this reflects the experience across the state.”
