Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has dismissed claims suggesting his possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, on Monday, the governor described the allegations as baseless and a fabrication by opposition elements within the state.
Recent reports had alleged that Governor Oborevwori had sent emissaries to President Bola Tinubu and was considering joining the APC, sparking debates about his acceptance within the Delta APC ranks.
In a statement, Ahon refuted the claims, saying, “The rumours of Governor Oborevwori planning to defect to another party are entirely false and were concocted by opposition elements in the state who feel threatened by his growing acceptance and bridge-building efforts across political divides.”
He reaffirmed the governor’s loyalty to the PDP and emphasized his dedication to working with the federal government for the progress of Delta State and Nigeria.
“Governor Oborevwori has no reason to defect to any other party. His broad acceptance within the PDP and the support of well-meaning Deltans and residents remain steadfast,” Ahon stated.
He further urged the public to dismiss the rumours, assuring that the governor is focused on fulfilling his MORE Agenda, the developmental framework he pledged during his election campaign.
“These rumours are nothing more than the antics of mischief-makers and fifth columnists,” Ahon added.
