Nigerian have lamented the spate of killings across the country calling for the immediate sack of the Service Chiefs who were appointed since inception of the Buhari administration.

Most Nigerians were vexed by the killings of 43 farmers in Zabarmari in Jere local government area, Borno state.

Many others were outraged by weekend’s killings in Borno, Benue, Kaduna, Plateau and Ekiti states.

In Ondo State last week, a first class traditional ruler, Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi, was waylaid on the highway and killed.

The wife of Mr. Olugbenga Ale, the Chief of Staff to Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, was kidnapped.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum was on Sunday at the funeral of the 43 farmers killed by Boko Haram insurgents on Saturday.

It was learnt that the death toll may rise as many people are still missing. The Boko Haram attackers abducted many others – whose fate is unknown.

The death toll in the Kaduna killings yesterday rose to eight. Five suspects have been arrested.

An Associate professor at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAM), Karl Kwaghger, was killed in the Benue State capital on Saturday night.

Two people were killed, according to the police in Kugiys market in Bukuru, Jos South local government area also at the weekend.

Among those who condemned the killings were President Muhamadu Buhari; Senate President Ahmad Lawan and House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

The Northern Governors’ Forum and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also flayed the incidents.

Buhari, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, described the killings as insane.

Reacting to the level of insecurity, Muhammad Saba wrote on Twitter, “We are not saying that the Service Chiefs should step down or be sacked because of what is happening but for the fact that they have over stayed their welcome,” he wrote.

Dr Seni Kani also called for the sack of the Service Chiefs with immediate effect. “We do call on President Buhari to straightaway sack the service chiefs for their none professional approach in tackling the security challenges that are discombobulating the country at this point.”

Muhammad Goni Bukar posted a picture of Governor Zulum at the burial site of the farmers in Borno and called for Service Chiefs to be sacked. “Angry face of my Governor Zulum
on the Zabarmari massacre. President Buhari enough of this blood shed. Sack Service Chiefs now.”

Sir Ahmad M. Salihu said he is surprised that the Service Chiefs have not been sacked. “Toward the end of the day today. President Buhari is still retaining the Security Chiefs despite the overwhelming failures from their part to secures Nigeria.”
