The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced the single highest number of coronavirus cases in one day in the country.

The 386 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control on Friday takes the total number of confirmed cases to 3912.

However there is more hope of recoveries as 78 patients were discharged and 10 deaths reported.

Lagos, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria reported a staggering 176 cases, the second highest number of cases in a single day.

The northern states of Kano and Katsina both recorded 65 and 31 cases of COVID-19 respectively while the Federal Capital Territory that failed to report a case on Thursday had 20 confirmed coronavirus cases.

Borno recorded 17 new cases while Bauchi recorded 15, Nasarawa – 14, Ogun – 10 and Plateau -10.

    Oyo -4, Sokoto – 4, Rivers – 4, Kaduna -3, Edo -2, Ebonyi -2, Ondo -2, Enugu -1, Imo -1, Gombe – 1 and Osun – 1.

The total number of cases have now climbed to 3912 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria with 679 discharged cases and 117 deaths.

    • Nigeria announces 381 new coronavirus cases

Earlier on Friday, the Lagos State Government had projected that the coronavirus pandemic may explode to 120,000 cases across the state by July or August.

Commissioner for Health in the state, Prof Akin Abayomi, made this known on Friday.

He said that the state may possibly record between 90,000 and 120,000 cases of the virus within the period.

The commissioner said with the current trend the COVID-19 cases in Lagos was expected to reach its peak by that period.

Abayomi stated that Lagos had expanded its testing capacity to reach large numbers of people in a bid to flatten the curve.

He attributed the sharp rise in cases being recorded to the decentralisation of sample collection across the 20 local government areas of the state.

According to him, if the government had not been proactive, Lagos would have by now recorded 6,000 cases rather than the 1,491 cases recorded so far.

Lagos State currently has 1,491 confirmed coronavirus cases.
