    Nigerian Navy releases Cute Abiola after 17 days in detention

    Popular online comedian Abdulgafar Ahmad, aka Cute Abiola, has been reportedly released from detention by the Nigerian Navy.

    Commodore Suleman Dahun, a spokesperson for the Navy, confirmed his release on Friday.

    “The comedian is no longer in naval detention,” according to Dahun, “and has been released to serve his punishment”.

    Chronicle NG reported how Cute Abiola was detained for violating military laws by posting a video of himself in a military uniform on social media.

    According to them, such behaviour is against the military’s social media policy.

    Cute Abiola did not show up when asked to explain himself, according to the Navy, but returned after his leave expired on November 15, 2021, and was arrested the same day.
