In the heat of controversy over the suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, reports say that the National Judicial Council (NJC) will hold an emergency on Monday on the issue.

Onnoghen was reported to have called off the meeting which was to hold last week.

The meeting has again been rescheduled to hold in Abuja by 10:00 a.m.

The justices who make up the NJC include Bode Rhodes-Vivour (Associate Justice), Nwali Sylvester Ngwuta (Associate Justice), Mary Odili (Associate Justice), Olukayode Ariwoola (Associate Justice), Musa Datijo Muhammad (Associate Justice), Kumai Bayang Akaahs (Associate Justice), Kudirat Kekere-Ekun (Associate Justice), John Inyang Okoro (Associate Justice), Chima Centus Nweze (Associate Justice) Amiru Sanusi (Associate Justice) Amina Adamu Augie (Associate Justice) Ejembi Eko (Associate Justice) Paul Adamu Galinje (Associate Justice), Justice Sidi Bage (Associate Justice).

The NJC is to deliberate on the case against Onnoghen as well as on his suspension.

The Guardian, quoting sources says neither Onnoghen nor the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed, will be allowed to preside over the meeting.

Also, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has scheduled an emergency meeting for today.

The president of the association, Mr. Paul Usoro (SAN), announced the meeting on Friday.

On the recommendation of Code of Conduct Tribunal, President Muhammadu Buhari suspended Onnoghen.

Onnoghen had been invited by the tribunal for trial over alleged non-declaration of some of his bank accounts.

Although he failed to appear before the tribunal, he had earlier accepted that he forgot to declare the the money.

Aside the order of the CCT, President Buhari threw more light on the reason why the suspended Chief Justice had to have recuse himself pending the determination of case against him.
