The Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) airstrikes in Zamfara State’s Maru Local Government Area have killed over 100 bandits.
According to dependable information obtained by Chronicle NG, the bandits on Tuesday moved in huge numbers from a forest in Zamfara State to Kebbi State with the goal of targeting nearby villages.
A senior military source additionally confirmed that the bandits were compelled to retreat back to the Dansadau axis of the Maru Local Government Area of the state after learning of the army’ presence along the route.
However, on Tuesday, the Nigerian Air Force launched airstrikes against the terrorist cell, neutralising it and setting over 100 of them on fire with their motorcycles while injuring a number of others to varying degrees.
According to reports, the terrorists who were killed were buried in large numbers at Babban Doka in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State and the Sangeko forest in Niger State.
Upon being reached, Captain Yahaya Ibrahim, the Operation Hadarin Daji spokesperson, confirmed the airstrikes to Chronicle NG, stating that the exact number of casualties is yet unknown.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) for the Nigerian Air Force, responded by confirming the airstrikes in Zamfara State.
He was unable to verify the exact number of casualties, though.
“Yes, indeed, air strikes were conducted on a number of mobile terrorists but I can’t confirm numbers to you.” he cofirmed to Chronicle NG
One of the states most severely impacted by bandit activity in the north is Zamfara. Niger, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Katsina are among the others.
