The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has encouraged Nigerians to safeguard themselves and prioritize their safety and well-being while showing love during Valentine’s Day.

The agency announced this in a statement signed by Toyin Aderibigbe, the NACA’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, ahead of Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is celebrated annually on February 14 to share love and gifts.

Dr. Gambo Aliyu, the Director General of NACA, said, “As people celebrate love on Valentine’s Day, we want everyone to enjoy it while prioritizing their well-being.

“NACA encourages individuals to adopt a comprehensive approach to love, which includes open communication, mutual respect, and responsible choices,” Aliyu said.

He also asked the public to include protection during intimate moments, get regular HIV testing, and talk about sexual health with their partners.

These actions, he believes, benefit not only personal health but also the larger goal of creating safer and healthier communities.

“Love is a powerful force, and by embracing responsible practices, we can ensure that it enriches our lives without compromising our health. NACA is dedicated to providing resources, information, and support to empower individuals to make informed choices,” he noted.

The agency restated its commitment to promoting a healthy and responsible celebration of love.

“In light of the ongoing global health situation, NACA encourages the public to prioritize their safety and well-being while expressing affection on Valentine’s Day,” the statement noted.

NACA also announced plans to launch extensive awareness programs to educate the public on the importance of abstinence and safe sex practices on Valentine’s Day.

“The agency aims to create an environment where love is celebrated responsibly, fostering a community that is both supportive and health-conscious,” it added.
