A man has reportedly been murdered while operatives of the Katsina state chapter of the Islamic morality police, Hisbah, were dispersing attendees during a wedding event in the state.
This was disclosed by a journalist, Jamil Mabai, in a statement on his verified X page on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the victim, simply identified as Mallam Gambo, died from bullet wounds sustained as a result of gunshots fired by operatives of “Community Watch Corps tasked with defending communities against bandits.”
He noted that the operatives fired shots while working in conjunction with Hisbah to disperse attendees at the wedding ceremony in the state.
He noted that operatives of the morality police dispersed the crowd while trying to enforce the ban on disc jockeys (DJs) in the state.
“Hisbah has banned the activities of DJs at events in the Katsina. Last Friday, Mallam Gambo, a resident of Katsina, died from a gunshot wound sustained
“while Hisbah officials were trying to shut down a wedding with a DJ. The shots were fired by an operative of the Community Watch Corps tasked with defending communities against bandits.”
At the time of filing this report, the Kastina State Police Command had yet to comment on the incident.
