Adekola Adeshina, 48, is being held by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command after he defiled a 10-year-old child.
SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s press secretary, said this in a press release that was made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday.
According to Adeh, the victim’s mother filed a complaint, which led to the suspect’s detention.
According to the statement, “Operations of the FCT Police Command assigned to the Apo Divisional Police Headquarters, received a complaint from a woman (name withheld) living adjacent to Prince and Princess Estate at approximately 10.15am on March 22, 2023.
“She complained that she was suspecting her neighbour, Adekola Adeshina, a 48-year-old male, of sexually engaging her 10-year-old daughter (name also withheld). She suspects he defiles her daughter occasionally.
“The suspect, shortly after being arrested and interrogated, voluntarily elected in a written statement to have carried out the dastardly act severally.”
Adeh added that the 10-year-old victim is still undergoing medical examination, while the suspect remains in police custody and will be dragged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
She quoted the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Sadiq Abubakar, as calling on parents and guardians to pay attention to changes in the behavioural pattern of their wards around individuals and ensure that measures are put in place to shield them against sexual crimes.
