The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has introduced the Whistle app as part of its efforts to alleviate traffic congestion and improve road safety across the state, especially with the anticipated increase in vehicular movement.
General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, explained that the app enables residents to report reckless driving, traffic violations, one-way offenses, and other disruptive incidents directly to the agency.
Bakare-Oki emphasized, “Whether stuck in traffic, witnessing an accident, or encountering a dangerous vehicle, users can quickly alert nearby LASTMA personnel. Upon receiving these reports, the agency will take swift action to manage the situation, whether it’s clearing traffic, handling accident scenes, or removing obstructive vehicles, ensuring a safer and more efficient commute.”
He also highlighted that many traffic issues in Lagos stem from drivers disregarding traffic laws, such as ignoring signals or driving on one-way streets. With the Whistle app, residents now have a direct and effective way to report these infractions.
“We encourage the public to use the app and assist us in making Lagos roads safer and more orderly. Once reports are verified, our teams will deploy resources to address the issues promptly,” said Bakare-Oki.
The Whistle app is available for download on the Play Store, and LASTMA urges residents to use it to help reduce traffic bottlenecks and ensure a smoother festive season for all.
