Kwara State Governor and chairman of Nigeria’s Governors Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has issued a strong statement in support of injured Nigerian and Nottingham forward, Taiwo Awoniyi.
Nottingham Forest striker is currently recovering in an induced coma following a serious abdominal injury sustained during a Premier League clash with Leicester City on May 11, 2025.
In a heartfelt prayer over the forward’s injury, the governor of Kwara State prayed for the quick recovery of the Super Eagles striker.
“Awoniyi is more than just a footballer — he is a proud son of Kwara State who continues to give back generously to the community that raised him.
“His unwavering connection to home is inspiring, and we look forward to seeing him return to the pitch stronger than ever.
Get well soon, dear brother and valued citizen. Kwara stands with you,” AbdulRazaq prayed.
The 27-year-old striker, famed for his strength and work ethic, sustained the injury after colliding with a post while chasing a cross.
Shortly after, emergency surgery was done; however, problems during the treatment required medical officials to place him in a medically induced coma to stabilise his condition.
Nottingham Forest authorities have stated that Awoniyi is “recovering well” and is under careful medical observation.
Awoniyi, a renowned personality in Nigeria and abroad, has always taken pleasure in his background.
Born and bred in Ilorin, Kwara State, he has continually supported youth projects, football development programmes, and humanitarian organisations in his hometown, making him a beacon of optimism and humility to many.
