Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West may have defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The controversial senator sat on the PDP wing of the upper chamber, saying he preferred to seat with the main opposition as against his own party.

Similarly, Hon. Adams Jagaba representing APC in Kacha/Kagarko in Kaduna has defected to the PDP.

Embattled Melaye announced his defection at the plenary on Wednesday, causing rowdy session.

Jagaba’s defection was contained in a letter read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara.

Their defection came barely 24 hours after Prince Dayo Adeyeye, one of the aspirants for the governorship ticket of PDP in Ekiti State, dumped the party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Melaye is known for courting controversy since he was first elected into the House of Representatives.

He was involved in various certificates scandals in 2017 including his claim to have obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from Ahmadu Bello University and a degree from the prestigious Boston-based Ivy League Harvard University in the United States, he claimed to have obtained the degree but not yet verified.

But Melaye was eventually cleared by the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University who appeared before the Senate Committee to confirm that Senator Dino Melaye graduated from the school, although under a different name.
