Safiyanu Isah Andaha, the abducted chairman of Akwanga Local Government Council in Nasarawa State, has been released after a N10 million ransom was paid to the kidnappers.

The council chairman was released together with his friend, Adamu Custom, and two other victims kidnapped along the Akwanga-Andaha route after a ten million naira ransom was paid.
The victims were freed by their abductors outside a filling station along Bayan Dutse Road, on the outskirts of Andaha town, according to a source close to the victims who did not want his name publicized.

“They were released around 9 p.m. behind Maigwona filling station at Bayan Dutse Road, and the sum of 10 million naira was paid as ransom,” he said.

The kidnappers, however, were assumed to be Fulanis who were turning their victims around in the jungle.

According to reports, as soon as they were released the kidnappers, they were transported to Adamu Custom’s personal residence in Andaha and then escorted by heavy security guards to the Federal Medical Center in Keffi for medical treatment.

Chronicle NG reported that the LG chairman was kidnapped on Monday night alongside his friend, Tanko, popularly known as Adamu Custom.

Haruna Kassimu, the Special Adviser to the Nasarawa State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, revealed that they were kidnapped around 8.30 p.m. on Monday, January 1.
