The kidnappers of Safiyanu Andaha, the chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, and his companion, Adamu Tanko, have demanded N50 million in ransom for their release.
This was revealed to newsmen in Lafia, the state capital, on Tuesday by a family source who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Negotiations between the chairman’s family and the kidnappers are now underway, according to the source.
Chronicle NG reported that the LG chairman was kidnapped on Monday night alongside his friend, Tanko, popularly known as Adamu Custom.
Haruna Kassimu, the Special Adviser to the Nasarawa State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, revealed that they were kidnapped around 8.30 p.m. on Monday, January 1.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state police public relations officer, also verified the development, stating that the police, in concert with other security agencies, were chasing the kidnappers in order to secure the victim’s release.
