Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has asked the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice to take action over the arrest of minors from the state who were among the #EndBadGovernance protesters prosecuted before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday.
Baba Halilu Dantiye, the state commissioner of information and internal affairs, confirmed the development to the press on Sunday.
Recall that the Federal Government on Friday arraigned 76 protestors apprehended during the country’s most recent #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria rally.
The protesters, who included minors who appeared malnourished in a viral video, were charged by the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, with treason, incitement to mutiny by urging the military to remove President Bola Tinubu, and other related offences. All 76 suspects pleaded not guilty.
Dantiye stated that Yusuf gave the directive via his X handle since the arraignment video went viral.
“The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has instructed the state’s Commissioner for Justice to act on the development.
“My attention has been drawn to the appearance of teenagers (some believed to be from Kano) in court today (Friday) in Abuja.”
“The Commissioner of Justice has been instructed to act immediately on the issue. We shall do everything possible to get them back to Kano, insha Allah,” the governor’s statement read on X.
