The Kaduna Police Command has shed light on a viral video circulating on social media that shows an anxious supporter during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Kaduna.
Mansir Hassan, the Command’s spokesperson, offered the clarification in a statement released Friday in Kaduna.
Hassan added that the video depicts a teenage supporter attempting to enter a restricted area during Thursday’s formal rally at Murtala Square in Kaduna.
He recognised the individual as Umar Mohammed, a mentally handicapped Anguwan Muazu native from Kaduna.
Investigations have found that Mohammed is a staunch supporter of Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani.
He was inspected and admitted to the stadium while wearing a campaign T-shirt and carrying banners of the president and the governor.
Preliminary results show that he stood with other supporters before breaking protocol and leaping the surrounding fence to get closer to the president.
Security personnel in the inner cordon soon apprehended and arrested him without incident.
During interrogation, he admitted that his actions were motivated by anxiousness and a strong emotional yearning to meet both leaders.
A thorough investigation was undertaken, and no incriminating evidence was discovered in his possession.
Hassan stated that the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, has warned against spreading misinformation or politicising security issues for selfish or political motives.
He insisted that the viral video was manipulated to misrepresent the incident and mislead the public.
The command is looking into the origins of the false narrative and will prosecute anyone found guilty of malicious misinformation.
