    President Bola Tinubu on Thursday awarded national posthumous honours to Niger Delta freedom fighters and environmental activists Ken Saro-Wiwa and others of the Ogoni Nine.

    Tinubu conferred on Saro-Wiwa, the late Ogoni-born Niger Delta activist, the Commander of the Niger.

    Tinubu made this announcement at the National Assembly during his State of the Nation Democracy Day address.

    Tinubu also announced a posthumous honour to Kudirat Abiola, the widow of the winner of the June 12, 1993 election, MKO Abiola.

    Among the notable honourees are Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, who was conferred the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, and Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, among others.

    “I shall also be exercising my powers under the prerogative of mercy to grant frequent Anonymous national heroes a full pardon, together with others (whose names shall be announced later in conjunction with the National Council of State),” the president added.
