A missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force on Tuesday, following claims by Yemen’s Huthi rebels that they had targeted Israel’s main airport.

In a video statement, Yahya Saree, the military spokesman for the Iran-backed Huthi group, declared responsibility for the attack, stating that the group had fired a hypersonic ballistic missile named “Palestine 2” towards Ben Gurion Airport “in support of Palestinians in Gaza.”

Confirming the incident, the Israeli military announced via X that “a missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted by the Israeli air force.”

Since the outbreak of hostilities in Gaza on October 7, 2023, the Huthis have persistently launched missiles and drones toward Israel. While most of these attacks have been thwarted by Israel’s defense systems, they have led to retaliatory airstrikes by Israel on Huthi positions in Yemen.

Beyond Israeli territory, the Huthis have also targeted commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, which they allege are linked to Israel. These actions have triggered a series of U.S.-led airstrikes against Huthi targets.
