The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promoted 5,196 members of its staff across the country.

INEC made the announcement in a daily bulletin released by Mrs. Adenike Tadese, Director of Publicity and Voter Education, on Thursday in Abuja.

Tadese stated that the promotion followed the commission’s 2023 promotion examination and review as part of its commitment to the welfare and development of its employees.

According to Tadese, 55 deputy directors on Grade Level 16 were promoted to the post of Director on Grade Level 17, and 54 assistant directors on GL 15 were promoted to the deputy director cadre on GL 16.

She also stated that the commission elevated 338 officers from GL 14 to Assistant Directors on GL 15, with the majority of the promotions affecting 4,749 officers from GL 7 to 13.

Meanwhile, four directors of the commission have been directed to proceed on terminal leave.

According to the statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Sam Olumekun, on Wednesday, the decision follows a directive from the Federal Government via a circular issued on July 27, 2023.

Meanwhile, four commission directors have been advised to take terminal leave.

Olumekun stated that two of the directors who are leaving served as department heads at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja, while the other two are administrative secretaries in state offices.

He did, however, point out that clinical officers in the medical cadre were exempt from the Federal Government Retirement Policy, “as clarified in Circular MH 7205/T31 dated September 7.”
