A gun battle broke out between military and unknown gunmen in Imo State’s Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, apparently killing scores and injuring many more.
The Nation reports that the attack took place Friday night at the Aba branch in Ehime Mbano.
“Some non-state actors attacked and killed some soldiers in the area yesterday. The whole place is on fire, and troops have taken over nearby communities,” a source claimed.
Following the tragedy, residents ran in terror as incessant gunfire filled the air, creating a mood of fear and uncertainty.
“We are terrified,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous. “The sound of gunfire is still echoing in our ears. We don’t know what will happen next. We are worried,” the resident said.
“Ehime used to be a serene environment, and we don’t know what is happening,” he added.
The gun fight took place days after Senator Frank Ibezim’s residence, who represented Okigwe senatorial zone in the 9th Assembly, and the National Open University centre in Ezeoke Nsu Ehime Mbano Local Government were set on fire.
