Chief Olisa Metuh, former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, joined family members on Sunday to commemorate the 62nd birthday of jailed former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.
Despite Ekweremadu’s absence, Metuh attended the event with his daughters and other family members. He revealed this in a post on X.com on Sunday.
Metuh wrote, “Today, I joined the Ekweremadu daughters and some family members to celebrate the 62nd birthday of my friend and brother for life.
“Indeed, I am so proud of the girls, especially Sonia, who has shown remarkable strength and resilience in these trying and most difficult times.
“We cut a birthday cake in his honour and enjoyed a sumptuous lunch in celebration. May the Almighty God give him peace and good health as we pray for a grand re-union in Jesus name.”
Chronicle NG reported in March 2023 that Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, were convicted of organ trafficking in the United Kingdom.
Following a six-week trial at the Old Bailey, the two and a medical practitioner, Dr. Obinna Obeta, were convicted of arranging the flight of a young man to Britain with the intention of exploiting him.
In May 2023, a UK court condemned Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months in prison, while his wife, Beatrice, was sentence to four years and six months for plotting to harvest a man’s kidney.
