Residents in panic and confusion following an explosion in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, on Tuesday evening.

A loud bang was heard and vibration was felt across several locations in Ibadan.

The loud bang was heard around Agbowo, Sango, Orogun, Bodija, and other areas of the city.

Chronicle NG reports that there were also videos online that showed a dusty cloud and burning houses and cars.

An eyewitness, a student of the University of Ibadan, said, “It is true. We all heard the sound, and it was very loud. The cloud is cloudy with smoke. It happened at Bodija, and we in the UI area could see the smoke. Even those at Sango and Ojo heard the sound. In fact, we are all in a room, scared for our lives.

In a statement, Adewale Osifeso, Oyo state police command spokesperson said, “The cause of the explosion is unknown, and no casualties could be confirmed as the search continues.”.

“The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, in the company of some senior officers and other responders, is on the ground for an on-the-spot assessment and rescue operation,” the statement reads.
