    The Kwara State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of Alhaji Idris Abubakar, the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria by gunmen in the state.

    Abubakar, 32, was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen around 10 pm on Saturday in front of his residence at Oke Ose, Ilorin East Local Government Area.

    The state police spokesman, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.

    “The Kwara State Police Command confirms the murder of Alhaji Idris Abubakar, the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Kwara State, who was shot dead on 8th March 2025 at the entrance of his residence in Oke Ose, Oke-Oyi.

    “The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has commenced a full investigation. CP Victor Olaiya, psc(+), assures that the perpetrators will be brought to justice and urges the public to remain calm and provide useful information,” the statement read.

    Muhammed Abdullahi, the Special Assistant to Kwara State on Inter-Community Relations (Fulani), also confirmed Abubakar’s death.

    Chronicle NG gathered that the gunmen ambushed him and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene, leaving him in a pool of blood.

    Abdullahi said, “Yes, he was killed in front of his residence on Saturday night by gunmen who left him for dead.

    “We are preparing for his janaza as I speak, but the police were here yesterday and have begun an investigation.”

    An eyewitness, Aina’u Sarki, stated that, “I was with him 20 minutes before he was killed. Someone called me on the phone and told me he had been shot dead.”

    The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association acknowledged the assassination of its chairman in a statement issued by its secretary, Alhaji Abdulazeez Mohammed, on Sunday.

    The statement read, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.

    “With deep sorrow, we announce the tragic passing of our esteemed Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Kwara State Chapter, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, who was killed by unknown gunmen yesterday at his Okeose residence at about 10 pm prompt. He is survived by 2 wives and 6 children.

    “May Allah (SWT) grant him mercy, forgive his shortcomings, and admit him into Aljannah Firdausi.

    “His Janaza (funeral prayer) will take place today at 10:00 AM in Zango, Ilorin, Kwara State.

    “May Allah grant him aljanatul firdauz and give his family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
