Panic gripped a health facility in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Monday following the mysterious disappearance of a newborn baby delivered just the previous evening.
According to sources at the facility, the baby, born on Sunday evening, was discovered missing when nurses came to attend to it the following morning.
“It was when the nurses on duty wanted to cater to the baby in the morning that it was discovered that the child, said to be delivered on Sunday evening, was nowhere to be found,” one source recounted.
The incident reportedly caused widespread confusion and distress among medical staff, the child’s mother, and even nearby traders. “The situation caused pandemonium as the mother of the baby, staff of the health facility and traders in the nearby market were all perplexed by the occurrence,” another witness said.
In response, the Ekiti State Police Command swiftly launched an investigation and arrested four individuals suspected to be connected to the incident.
Police spokesperson Sunday Abutu confirmed the development, stating that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, had ordered an immediate and thorough probe into the matter.
Abutu said, “The CP has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the recovery of the baby.
“Meanwhile, four suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime and are giving us credible information that will aid the investigation process.”
The case continues to spark concern across the state as authorities work to uncover the truth and locate the missing child.
