Operatives of the Federal Fire Service in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital have put out the fire that gutted the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The media centre of INEC was involved in a fire incident on Friday, April 17, 2020.
Providing an update on the fire incident, the official Twitter account of the Federal Fire Service said the fire had been put out.
“Our men have successfully extinguished the fire that gutted INEC headquarters, Abuja,” the tweet read.
The Fire Service did not disclose to what extent the fire ravaged INEC building or the losses that were incurred.
A source disclosed to Chronicle NG, that the fire was limited to one office, detached from the main building close to the media centre.
“The media centre was not affected at all,” the source said.
The office is the third government building to witness a fire incident in Abuja in just a little over a week.
The office of the Accountant General in Abuja went up in flames on April 8, followed by another fire incident at the headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in the Maitama area of Abuja on April 15.
