The proposed meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, which was scheduled for Monday (today), has been postponed.
According to Channels Television, ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke acknowledged on Monday that the meeting scheduled for Friday, as previously announced by the Minister of Education, will not take place.
Although no reason was offered for the postponement, the meeting is now set to take place on Wednesday, August 28.
Following resolutions passed at the union’s national executive council meeting on August 19, 2024, at the University of Ibadan, public university lecturers have vowed to go on strike nationwide over the Federal Government’s inability to fulfil the 2009 renegotiated agreement.
ASUU’s demands include improved welfare, university finance, and a halt to the growth of universities around the country.
