The Niger State Police Command has confirmed that an explosion that rattled the Sabon Pegi area of the Mashegu Local Government Area of the state on Sunday was caused by dynamites stored in a residential building.
One person, Fatima Sadauki, was killed by the explosion, while six others were injured and taken to General Hospital Kainji, New Bussa, for treatment, according to a statement released by SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s spokeswoman.
“The explosion of dynamites occurred in densely populated residential buildings in Sabon Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area, on Sunday.
“The suspected dynamites were stored in a residential house by one Yushau for a purported mining activity,” Abiodun stated.
He also disclosed that approximately twelve homes in the vicinity were impacted by the incident, resulting in substantial property damage.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the explosion has been ordered by CP Shawulu Danmamman, the Commissioner of Police for the Niger State Command, in response to the unfortunate tragedy.
Concerns about public safety in the state are further heightened by this most recent event, which occurs only one week after a fuel truck exploded along the Dikko-Maje-Minna road.
