Vice president Yemi Osinbajo summoned an emergency National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Monday, October 26, 2020.
The Vice President chairs NEC which has state governors and the minister of the Federal Capital Territory as members.
It is believed that he called an emergency NEC meeting to get update on the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the state governments to prosecute police brutality.
In attendance at the meeting was the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, the Director General of the State Security Service, Yusuf Bichi and heads of the military.
According to sources close to the meeting, the Vice President urged the police and other security agencies to refrain from using any kind of force against the citizens.
He also urged governors to speedily ensure that the prosecution of erring police officers.
The virtual meeting took place amidst the looting of COVID-19 palliatives at warehouses as well as the vandalisation of public and private property across the country following the #EndSARS protests.
