The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied claims that the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is in its custody.aaa
According to a statement signed by the director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, Ohiare Michael, the former governor of Kogi State, honoured the invitation of the EFCC over the alleged misappropriation of N80.2 billion.
Saying the former governor has “nothing to hide, nothing to fear,” the media aide noted that the ex-governor honoured the invitation to prove his innocence.
However, in a statement on Wednesday by Dele Oyewale, Head, Media and Publicity of the Commission, the EFCC mentioned that the claims that Bello is in their custody are “incorrect.”
“Media reports today that a former Governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello, is in the holding facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, are incorrect. The Commission wishes to state that Bello is not in its custody,” the statement partly reads.
Oyewale also added that “Bello, already declared wanted by the Commission for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges, remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest.”
